Finton’s Frolic: This Kante be True

By Daniel Finton (Deputy Editor)

What up, Pimps?

Welcome one and welcome all to the Finton’s Frolic right opinion zone. It’s been a couple weeks, maybe we should just call these what they are, a bi, or tri-weekly series. To be honest, I’ve just been slammed. As you three readers will definitely know, I landed my dream job. And seeing as it was the agonizing anxiety that made me come up with the weird, weekly crap, induced by the fear of never achieving my dream, I now fear all my stuff will ultimately suck even more. Oh also, I evacuated to my home town, in to a category 4 (out of 5) hurricane. Over 100 have been killed from it. If you have any extra food or money, they could really use it down there. Me and mine are safe, but many others have had their lives ruined.

Anyways, I’m not gonna force some humorous transition here because that would be too insensitive for even me, so let’s just get into the Arsenal part of the blog.

We’ve been linked to N'Golo Kante. You know, the guy we were supposed to sign instead of Granit Xhaka all those years ago? One of the best midfielders to ever play the game. He’s running out of contract in 2023, Chelsea don’t want to extend, he wants to stay in London, and he’s injury prone. Gee. Wonder where he’ll end up . .

In all seriousness though, he’s a good player, still, and would add some great depth to our midfield. He absolutely could not do what Thomas Partey or Xhaka do now, but he could certainly do a job. That said, it would be a pricy one.

Kante is reportedly on £290,000/week, and though he may accept some sort of pay cut as he’s aware of his age, his wages would stay extortionate to some extent. That would complicate things.

At the moment our wage structure finally makes sense. Gabriel Jesus, Partey, and soon Bukayo Saka (reportedly, potentially, hopefully, please God, Allah, Buddha, every other religious icon) are the highest paid players sitting at £200,000/week, or just above. Does it make sense to bring in a player older than 30 that would be in that higher bracket? Probably not, in spite of his undeniable quality, it would be a stupid move, financially.

So anyways, we’ll sign him. And I’ll be wrong. He’ll prove to be our most important signing in recent history, and Arsenal will be the third team he wins the league with, and the first red one.

The question is, really, though, will he be taking Partey’s slot/number? The Ghanaian has been a failure of a signing. I'll just leave it at that. Could this be the end for him?

If so, to he and you,

Toodloo …!
